- noun Pentalagus furnessia, a primitive dark-furred
rabbit found on two islands (Amami and Toku-no-Shima) in southern Japan. A nocturnal, forest-dwelling animal with short legs, a somewhat bulky body, rather large and curved claws. Its ears are significantly smaller than those of other rabbits or hares.
